This has been a busy week at both our nurseries.
We are still looking into the possibility of extending our provision to include a Saturday opening (8am-2pm) if you have an interest please speak to your setting manager.
Across Fareacres, the rooms for children under two have been working together with parents to create some beautiful displays using family photographs. These photographs are helping children to build a bridge between home and nursery, and are a great resource to assist in the settling process. The children have loved sharing their photographs with everyone and have initiated lots of communication and language opportunities.
In Rainbow Fish the staff have brought the outdoors in, to give the children a sensory experience using leaves from the tree.
The Crawling Caterpillars have made handprints from air dry clay and are decorating these to be taken home by parents to have as a keepsake.
The ‘Book Doctor’ initiative is used by children at both nurseries. The book doctor was devised in order to give the children the responsibility of caring for the books in a familiar and fun manner. In providing children with this responsibility, the children have more awareness of caring for the contents of the book corner. There is a doctor’s case full of resources to fix any damaged books; children are able to book appointments with the book doctor, who changes each time, so that all children have the opportunity to take the lead.
Our children have been engaging in imaginative play and making use of the natural resources autumn has to offer to create a wonderful variety of experiences. Imaginative play is essential when children are role playing and are acting out various experiences they may have had or something that is of some interest to them. They are experimenting with decision making on how to behave and are also practicing their social skills. Children learn from experience: from what happens around them, from what they see, hear, smell, taste and touch. To absorb those experiences and make sense of the world, they need to be engaged in imaginary play.
Fareacres always encourages parents participation into the nursery’s learning community by coming and leading sessions for example arts and crafts play, sessions in the garden or dancing sessions. This week a dad had come to read a story in Gujarati to the whole group. The children loved this experience as did the dad, he said about the children that “They were listening nicely, even though they didn’t understand the language” We look forward to many more experiences and opportunities to engage with our parents.
